TRES PTA is excited to announce our participation in the National Reflections Arts competition for 2024-2025. This is a once in year opportunity for all TRES students to showcase creative abilities in the Arts.
Discover your world and explore new cultures on your own through dance, music, photography, or visual arts. No experience is required to participate in Reflections! Be recognized as an artist in TRES community. Choose the arts category you’re interested in then create an original piece of artwork based on the theme: “Accepting Imperfection”. Participation is easy with five simple steps and takes less than 30 minutes.
TRES PTA membership is encouraged but not required to participate. All participants will be recognized by TRES PTA. Three winners from each category in each grade will move on to county level in the competition. Check out FAQs at the bottom of the page. 1. Do I need PTA membership to participate in Reflections Arts completion?
PTA membership is encouraged but not required to participate.
2. Are there any fees to participate in the competition?
Event is completely free for all current TRES students.
3. Why should I participate?
National Reflections Arts competition presents a unique opportunity for our students to showcase their artistic skills. All participants will be recognized in the TRES community. Three winners from each category will move on the next level at Howard County. Winners at National Level receive cash prizes.
4. How can parents help?
We are looking for parent volunteers to help organize the event. We anticipate 2 hours or less work each week; more in the weeks around competition itself.
5. Where do students need to go to participate in the event?
Students will create their artwork at their home based on theme. Students submit their entries electronically to the TRES PTA reflections committee through google entry form.
6. How many categories can a student participate in?
We understand we have some great artist in our student community who can express themselves in different art forms. That’s why, there is no limit on how many categories each student can participate in. Please submit separate entry form for each category.
7. Who are the judges?
Judges will be parents, teachers and other community members with experience in art. If you are a professional artist in any of the above categories and would like to serve as a judge, please reach out to the PTA reflections committee; we greatly appreciate your help.
8. How are winners selected?
We will recognize everyone who participates. National PTA provides guidance on evaluation criteria. Our judges will carefully evaluate the artwork and description provided based on that guidance. Top three entries in each category will be declared winners. Winners will move on to next level i.e. county level. Winners will be announced in the school.
9. What is the evaluation criteria?
TRES PTA will follow National PTA guideline for evaluating each submission.

11. What is a minimum requirement to participate?
Student who is actively enrolled in TRES school may submit an original art work in electronic form along with participation form by the due date to participate. Details rules and guidelines can be found on links above.
12. How do I send large media files electronically for submission?
If student created a video for their art work e.g. short film; you can upload it on Google drive and send us the link. Remember to grant us read access to the file.
13. How do I electronically submit physical artifact such as canvas painting?
Please scan the artifact and send it electronically. You may reach out to Reflections committee if art work can not be scanned.
14. Where can I find artwork created by students in the past to get inspiration from?
National PTA hosts virtual exhibit of student's artwork from last year. Click here for virtual exhibit.
15. Is title and artist statement in participation form required?
Yes, absolutely. Think of a suitable title for your art work. Provide insights into your thought process by giving a short description about your artwork. It must be less than 100 words or less than 1000 characters. Keep title short and concise too.

- Creativity: How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
- Technical Skill: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.
- How does your work relate to the theme?
- What is your personal connection to the theme?
- What did you use to create your work (e.g., supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
- What/who was your inspiration?
